Some Pictures from Macau

Here are some pictures of Macau, taken at the end of 2003. By request of a friend, I uploaded them for you to view. Photo quality is not good, but hope you enjoy them anyway.
Macau is an interesting place, with the blend of East and West culture.

Real Love

Real love is wisdom. What most people think of as love is just an impermanent feeling. If you have a nice taste every day, you will soon get tired of it. In the same way, such love eventually turns into hatred and sorrow. Such worldly happiness involves clinging and is always tied up with suffering, which comes like the policeman following the thief.

Nevertheless, we cannot suppress nor forbid such feelings. We just should not cling to or identify with them but should know them for what they are. One loves another, yet eventually the beloved leaves or dies. To lament and think longingly, grasping after that which has changed, is suffering, not love. When we are at one with this truth and no longer need or desire, wisdom and the real love that transcends desire fill our world.

Tao Yuan

Sometimes in the weekend we went to Tao Yuan, an hour train ride from Taipei.

Taoyuan1.jpg

Indonesian worker are quite a lot in Taoyuan. One of the street in Taoyuan, near from Train Station.

We also went to the nearby mountain, only 30 minutes walk from city area. Taiwan is very mountanous, mountains are always nearby. And they have steps to climb up too.

Shangsen (mulberry) tree, in front of my friend's house in Taoyuan. Summer is time to pick the fruit. These ones above are not black enough to eat. It tastes good as juice.

This peanut tastes really good. In addition, it's hot! (Fresh from the cooking pot). We eat while climbing up the mountain. How nice !

Trip to Alishan

Alishan (Mount Ali) is one of the most famous place in Taiwan. They even have a well-known song about this place.

This is the famous old and slow-ride train from Pei Men (Chiayi), trekking up to Alishan.

When the train finally arrived in Alishan.

Alishan has numerous varieties of beautiful flowers. Springtime is when this Rose blooms. I don't remember this flower's name, but it is one of the Sakura family too.

It was kinda too late when we came to Alishan in the mid April, because the flowers are already rare.

Two top tourist attractions in Alishan are: sunrise viewing (from 4 am to 6 am depends on the season) and the sea of clouds (where you can see sea of clouds under you from the top of the mountain).
It is a tradition when you spend a night in Alishan, the hotel staffs will wake you up in 3 am, to give you time to prepare for the sunrise viewing. Some take a morning walk up to the higher place to view the sunrise. Some (like us) take the bus, rent from the hotel. It was chilling in the morning. The picture above shows sunrise-about-to-be. We were unlucky because that morning it was about to rain, so there's no sunrise to see. :(

This is the sea of clouds. Amazing.

Post office in Alishan. I like it.

March is the best time to visit Yang Ming Shan, when the Ing Hua (one of Sakura family) blooms. These pictures were taken in March, where people flocks to Yang Ming Shan, only 30 minutes bus ride from downtown Taipei.

Taipei 101

Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world, and also the loneliest, I guess. No skycrapper in its surrounding.
